Wall Murals

One of my specialties is designing and creating murals that bring your favorite subject to life. They are featured in homes and retail shops throughout Central Massachusetts. I've had the opportunity to paint murals of all sizes in a wide variety of styles.

Faux Windows On An Outdoor Bathhouse
Here are few more photos of the trompe l"oeil windows you can see on my homepage here at DDaydesigns.blogspot.com
The window seen below is partially open.

The other window seen below, has a light on inside!

Below, a "before" picture.

Scene Of The Azores Through Faux Windows
Using photos of actual places in The Azores, I painted these scenes for a family from the Azores. They now reside here in Central Massachusetts.
You might notice that the texture of the paintings looks a little grainy, or rough. That's because the surface of the wall is a very rough sandpaper textured stucco.

I like to show "before" pictures of my mural projects, which you can see below.

RESIDENCE IN WEST BOYLSTON, MA
I painted two murals in a West Boylston, MA home. The first is the old stone church (which is located on the Wachusett Reservoir which is also in West Boylston.) I rendered it from a photo. It has a finished size of 4'x12' and greets you in the front hallway. The second mural is a country scene that serves as the backsplash in the kitchen.

Below is the back splash above the kitchen counter to the left of the sink depicting the farmhouse and barn.
Below is the back splash above the kitchen counter to the right side of the sink depicting the farmyard.

A Wall Mural Of Arizona
Here are a few more pictures of the wall mural that can be seen by clicking on the "Home" tab above.
The first picture below is a "panoramic" view which explains the curved fish eye appearance of the wall.

Windows That Aren't Really There In a Private Residence, Central Ma

Painted by Dennis Day of D.Day designs located in Central Massachusetts.
My customer commissioned me to paint Trompe-l'œil copies on the wall facing you in the photo below, of the window on the right in the photo below. My mission was to realistically create the optical illusion that they exist on what was actually a plain, blank gray wall. This wall is 17' feet high. One of the most challenging parts of the project was to paint the crown moldings at the top of the windows to look like they were actually there, but they aren't. There is only a painting of them going up the wall and out onto the ceiling.

Below is the "fake" crown molding.

Below... a blank canvas.

Wall Mural Of The African Serengeti
Here are a few more pictures of this mural that can be seen on my "Home" page. Please excuse the quality of the photos. They were taken with a film camera, before digital cameras, and were scanned into my computer.

Small Hand Painted Wall Mural Of Ricky Carmichael Dirt Bike
Here are a few more pictures of the small wall mural of the Ricky Carmichael Dirt Bike that can be seen on my home page.

BACK TO THE FUTURE!
This mural is 10 feet high and is on a garage wall where a flawless replica of the Back to the Future Delorean "Time Machine" is parked. True "Back To The Future" movie fans need to go to
88mphtimemachine.com
to learn more!
No that's not Doc Brown standing on that ledge in the picture below. That's my customer!

Below are my Awesome Customers in front of the finished mural! You can see just a little bit of the "Time Machine" Delorean in the bottom right hand corner of the picture. Like I said above, go to 88mphtimemachine.com to see more!

BACK TO THE FUTURE - Part III
This is a mural that is almost more like a very large painting on canvas. It's painted on an 8x12 foot piece of muslin which is stretched on a collapsible frame. It is used as a backdrop for THE car used in the movie "Back to the Future III" when the car is taken to shows.

Seen below is a picture of the mural after some very clever photoshopping, done by a friend of the customer, to be used in internet and print advertising for upcoming car show appearances.

RESIDENTIAL GARAGE, LEOMINSTER, MA
Mural of the S-curves at Watkins Glen and Ryder cup logos, rendered from a photo which was provided by the customer, the mural is  in a  garage at a home in Leominster, MA. The painting is about 20' across and 6' high and was painted on a 45 degree angle knee wall that was finished with a stucco type textured surface. Fun!

The customer I painted the above mural for is a huge fan of Fords. When facing this mural, the wall to your right sports the painting below, also taken from a photo provided by the customer.

RENDITIONS OF "THE MASTERS"
Van Gogh, Monet, and Degas. I painted these floor to ceiling murals in my daughter Amanda's room (at her special request).

FENWAY PARK MURAL IN A PRE-TEEN BEDROOM

This mural represents Fenway Park as it was in the 1950's. The mural is about 14' wide by about 5' high. It took me about 5 days (40-45 hours) - start to finish. (The proud owner of the mural is pictured below).

UNDERWATER POOL MASTERS (STORE)
WEST BOYLSTON, MA
This mural can be found painted on a wall about 5-6' wide and 10' tall behind the service counter at Underwater Pool Masters in West Boylston, MA. I highly recommend them for anything and everything "swimming pools!" You can visit them at www.underwaterpools.com. I rendered this mural from a composite of several photos. Steve, the owner of Underwater Pool Masters is seen in the first photo.

Below is the finished service counter!

FJS AUTO BODY
A wall mural that I painted in FJS Auto Body in Lancaster, MA. It took about 60 hours over a period of about a month to paint and is about 20' across and 12' high. There was no brush painting involved. It is completely done with an airbrush and a small spray gun known to auto painters as a "door jam gun".

HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM, CENTRAL MA
A mural of the school mascot given as a gift to the school by the students of the graduating class of 2003

I like to show pictures of my murals in the process of being painted to show people what can be involved in creating them.

MEOLAS WAYSIDE ICECREAM SHOP - STERLING, MA
This mural is 5' high and 20' across. It took a week to complete. The customer gave me the idea of using the cover of the children's board game "Candyland" as a guide and left it up to my imagination to change it to "Ice Cream Land". You can see it from the window when you order your favorite ice-cream at Meola's.

MURAL IN A POOL HOUSE
The tallest part of this wall is 14 feet high and the width is 29 feet.
Can you find NEMO?

I realize that sharks have a very black lifeless looking eye, but my customers told me they didn't want it to be too scary...there are going to be kids swimming in that pool!
